Dielectric Fluid Supply The oil acts as a dielectric medium, electrically insulating the electrode and workpiece until the breakdown voltage is reached. Once the spark occurs, the oil ionizes, allowing controlled material removal. The oil also helps extinguish the spark quickly, preventing excessive heat buildup. 2. Filtration and Contamination Control During EDM, microscopic metal particles and carbonized residues are generated. The oil system includes filters (e.g., paper, cartridge, or centrifugal filters) to remove these contaminants, maintaining fluid cleanliness. Clean oil ensures stable sparking conditions and prevents arcing or uneven machining. 3. Cooling and Temperature Regulation The oil absorbs heat from the machining zone, preventing thermal deformation of the workpiece and electrode.
